Millions of Americans awaiting their next benefit check from the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program are in a hurry today, and, as to a certain group of beneficiaries, tomorrow is of great importance. This Wednesday, September 25, is a very important day for the eligible ones and here we tell who will find their bank accounts growing in size.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) makes payments to the 7.4 million SSDI recipients of the program in a staggered manner. This implies a payment distribution structure in which birth dates are used, such that payments for certain beneficiary groups are made on Wednesdays of the month on different weeks.
If your birth date falls between the 21st and the 31st of any month, count yourself lucky because, for you, September 25 is a special day. Your SSDI payment will reflect in your account this coming Wednesday. For those who were born on other dates, it is likely that the September payment has already been received.
How does the SSDI payment schedule work?
- Birthdays between the 1st and 10th: Payments on the second Wednesday.
- Birthdays between the 11th and 20th: Payments on the third Wednesday.
- Birthdays between the 21st and 31st: Payments on the fourth Wednesday.
What if your SSDI payment doesn’t arrive?
But if you’re counting on that cash and it does not come on time, do not worry just yet. In fact, the SSA advises that you wait for three business days before you do anything. Then, check with your bank to confirm that there are no holds or other problems. If everything is fine with your bank, then contact the SSA by whatever means you prefer: phone, internet, or by visiting a local office.
The payment schedule, however, is different for reclamants of SSDI who had begun receiving benefits before May 1997 or those who are also recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Such persons receive their SSDI benefits on the 3rd day of the month and SSI benefits on the first.
